How to apply

Step 1 - Eligibility Check
Check that you are eligible for the Official Sports London Bursary by clicking here:
Step 2 - Choose a Course
Look through our list of eligible sports and courses. Choose a course that you would like to do. You should pick the course that interests you the most and matches your experience. If you have already completed an eligible course contact us as you might be eligible to apply retrospectively, if you can demonstrate proof of payment and completion of the course.
Please note:
- we can only fund the courses listed on our website
- we do not provide funding for coaching courses

Step 3 - Register your Interest
After you have chosen your course you should register for an application pack. You can do this by using the link below. You will need to provide us with your contact details and will be asked to select the sport and course you would like to complete. Once we have received your details we will send you an application pack in the post. Please note that the application pack is not available online.
Step 4 - Complete the Application Form
Once you have completed the application form you should return it to us using the Stamped Addressed Envelope provided in the application pack. Before posting the form, please remember that you must:
- contact the named representative at the National Governing Body of the sport you wish to apply for before submitting your application.
- check and confirm the costs that you would like to apply for to complete your course. Click here to see details of the eligible sports and courses.
- include copies of a valid proof of ID, and a valid proof of address
- include proof that you receive child benefit or careers allowance if you are applying for these costs
- include the details of someone from a sports club or any of the other organisations listed on the form who can provide a reference for you. Please contact the Official Sports London Team if you are uncertain on who to select as a reference.
- If you want to apply retrospectively please call 020 7749 9173 first to check that you are eligible. You will have to include proof of payment, and proof of completion of any eligible officiating course with your application form.

Step 5 - Assessment and Decision
Applications to Official Sports London are assessed by a Panel. The Panel generally meets monthly to assess applications. The Official Sports London bursary has a set threshold of applications it can support per annum. It operates on a first come first served basis. When we reach the yearly threshold for applications the application process for Year 2 will be closed. Applicants will be informed of the Panel’s decision within one week of the Panel meeting. If successful, you will then receive a Grant Award pack containing further details and documents.
